RHI Mould Seminar 2007
MoldTech lectured over 200 Government Registered Home Inspectors from the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors.
Our goal was to provide inspectors with information, so they can comfortably discuss mould issues with potential home buyers. We hope that homebuyers using a Registered Home Inspector may become aware of potential mould problems before purchasing a new home.
* Please note that this was not a mould inspection training seminar. MoldTech was requested to discuss general principles of mould remediation and inspection. If you require a mould inspection, a Certified Mould Inspector should be obtained.
Amendments to the Criminal Code set out in Bill C-45 (Health & Safety Negligence) came into effect March 31, 2004. These amendments mean dramatic new duties, new risks of investigation and prosecution and the possibility of workplace-based criminal liability for corporate organizations as well as individuals.
In short, any employer could be held criminally liable for not providing and employee a safe work environment. Poor indoor air quality or environmental pollution which causes harm to an employee can result in civil as well as criminal prosecution under Bill C-45.
Not providing, ensuring and investigating the status of indoor air quality in a workplace can result in criminal charges against the directors of a corporation, organization as well as sole proprietors and individuals.
Not investigating air quality complaints by
employees are now considered 'negligence'
and will expose the employer to be liable.
Reduce your personal and corporate liability by having regular indoor air quality testing performed in your work environment. Regularly investigating and managing the indoor environment will reduce the possibility of being found negligent and thereby reduce your liability.

I have black stuff in my cold cellar. Is it mould?
This discolouration is likely mould, but may just be staining. Email us a picture if you have one, and let us help you!
I have white fuzz on some cement in my basement. Is it mould?
This may be mould, but in most cases, it is just ‘efflorescence’. Call us to find out more.
I found mould in my home? Is it toxic?
It is hard to determine whether your moulds are toxic, pathogenic, or allergenic without having air samples taken.
Can the mould spread?
It really depends on the environment. In some cases mould is content in its environment and does not aerosolize. Sometimes, it will become readily airborne. Call us for free information on how to minimize spore migration.
